Southern New Hampshire University - Library Learning Commons

SNHU – Library Learning Commons

Hooksett, NH

Southern New Hampshire University is developing incredible momentum. The President of the United States points to the University as a role model for the future of higher education. Enrollment is experiencing historic growth. The University’s workforce has grown by a factor of five since 2010. And now the Hooksett campus is enhanced with a new library known as the Learning Commons.

SNHU contracted with Harvey to work with Perry Dean Rogers and develop a center of learning that met the needs of the modern college student and their collaborative, social learning style while providing more services in one location. The new three story, 50,000 s/f facility has become the signature building on the SNHU campus and is described as functional, practical and aesthetically pleasing. The project began in 2013 when the University’s President, seated in a cab of an excavator demolished one of the oldest buildings on campus, Campbell House, to make way for the new learning commons.

The building incorporates the most current technologies with areas for quiet learning making it a destination facility for everyone on campus. In addition housing library services, the learning commons also includes an IT help desk, learning and faculty centers, instructional support, a café, and a digital + 3D media production suite. The building is built in close proximity to the dining hall and allows for the creation of a new campus green along North River Road.
