As a result of providing Southern New Hampshire University with pre-construction services relative to a proposed campus expansion, Harvey was contracted to design and build a new campus dining center that would be the anchor building for future campus development. Collaborating with the University, Sodexo, Inc. and Cube 3 Studio – Harvey coordinated all construction, civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and food service engineering for the project.
Harvey’s planning team worked closely with food service staff, project architects and equipment engineers to deliver a program that not only met strict budget requirements but also provided administrators and Trustees with the signature building they desired. University stakeholders were confident that the dining center would be much more than a new place to eat – and they were right; not only does it provide a variety of study and social spaces, but it also created function rooms that could host larger audiences and a broader range of events.
The new dining center incorporates a restaurant style experience with a new array of culinary options ranging from brick oven pizza to a sushi bar to home cooked meals. The ambience and culinary offerings at the center reflect what students today want – a variety of international cuisines that are sourced and served in a sustainable way and provide healthy alternatives.
The building’s design features a commitment to the environment by incorporating sustainable elements including: a web-based energy management system, fluorescent lighting, occupancy sensors, sun shades, white roofs, air-lock vestibules, native plantings and recycled materials.
