Summit Packaging

Summit Packaging

Manchester, NH

Summit Packaging Systems is a manufacturer of plastic aerosol valves for the packaging industry. In 2004 Summit’s production facility at the Manchester Airport was in jeopardy; the Airport’s rapid expansion required securing the Company’s real estate for airport use. Summit had to quickly relocate their operations to a newly acquired site. They turned to Harvey to help them develop a plan for consolidating their business without disrupting 24-hour-a-day operations.

As design/builder Harvey developed site plans to accommodate manufacturing and office space, secured approvals and coordinated extensive site preparation (including relocation of gas, water, sewer, power and telephone lines). Harvey was also required to phase construction of the manufacturing facility in order to accommodate for losing property sooner than expected at Summit’s previous location. Successfully guiding Summit through a challenging approval process allowed Harvey’s team to begin construction of the 16,500 s/f manufacturing facility in April 2005, a month earlier than anticipated. Harvey completed construction for the manufacturing facility in three months, allowing Summit to streamline production without any downtime.

The project team, working with Harvey’s architect for the project – Berard-Martel Architects – fast-tracked construction of Phase II, Summit’s new corporate headquarters, by reducing design durations by more than 30%. The design/build team worked together to determine structural, mechanical, electrical and architectural requirements early in the process allowing construction to begin before final designs were completed. The new two-story, 18,500 s/f office building includes private offices, open petitioned office space, conference rooms, cafeteria, display areas and a grand entry. A kitchen was added as construction progressed requiring Harvey’s team to closely coordinate plans with a kitchen consultant and complete the new space within the originally anticipated time line.

Construction of the office building phase began May 2005 and was completed in December 2005 – three weeks earlier than scheduled in the project’s GMP.
