Valley Regional Hospital

Valley Regional Hospital

Claremont, NH

Harvey provided Valley Regional Hospital with pre-construction and construction management services relative to the hospital’s CON renovation and expansion project. By contracting with Harvey early in the planning process, prior to submitting the project to the State Certificate of Need Board, the hospital not only received cost and schedule control during the design phase but also secured a not-to-exceed price for the project.

The two-year, 58,000 square foot construction and renovation project, which began in July 2008, was the largest in the hospital’s 115-year history. Because the project involved upgrading the physical plant and enhancing patient services, administrators searched for a construction manager with relevant experience and seasoned hospital personnel.

To help patients navigate the hospital’s facilities construction included building a new main foyer and entranceway. The central plant, which houses the hospital’s boiler room, was moved to the rear of the building and a new helipad was constructed closer to the emergency room entrance. The new emergency department now provides 50% more space than the previous department and is now strategically located in close proximity to critical services such as radiology, laboratory and surgery. In addition, administrative offices were relocated to the east side of the hospital, and extensive improvements were made to same-day surgery units.

Patient rooms were converted to a private configuration, including family areas with refrigerators for families visiting patients. Renovations of existing space also expanded occupational health department, including rehab space.
